A. ALL BEGINNING AND DRAWING STUDENTS
- 3-4 examples of your most recent work (even if done a long time ago).
- 18 x 24 and 11 x 14 spiral bound sketchpads.
- A collection of drawing pencils in different softnesses: F, HB, B2, B4, and B6.
- A set of 3 carpenter’s pencils 2B, 4B and a 6B. (A ½” wide, flat pencil with a wide lead in it that comes in various softnesses) Bring unsharpened. (Avail, Plaza Art Store, only.) Note: Do NOT get the sharpener for these.
- A double-opening metal pencil sharpener for large and regular sized pencils.
- A sandpaper board (For shaping drawing pencil points) or Fine sandpaper.
- A kneaded eraser (gray, putty-like small rectangular block, wrapped in cellophane.)
- utility knife with a 1” or ¾ ” wide blade. (NO Smaller blades as it is too flimsy and unsafe for our purposes.)
- Charcoal, 3 kinds: 1.) ½“ wide compressed boxy/rectangular sticks-unwarped; 2.) Charcoal pencil; 3.) Thin soft vine sticks.

B. ALL PAINTING STUDENTS
- A few varied examples of most recent work
- Supplies that you currently possess of your chosen medium plus any listed below for that particular medium which you don’t already have unless your set is totally adequate.
- A color wheel and/or the pamphlet on color mixing (Plaza Art Supply Store)
- A small sketchbook (9x12 minimum size).
- An F pencil
- # 6B carpenter’s pencil (unsharpened) (Available only from Plaza Art Store, Towson).
- A Kneaded eraser
- fine sandpaper board/pad.
- A utility knife with 1” or 3/4” wide blade only. (Any smaller blade may flex too much for our purposes.)
PASTELISTS ONLY
- Faber-Castell Goldfaber Soft Pastels 48 colors min. (NOT “Prisma Color”, “Alpha” or “Lowell Cornell” brands & NOT oil pastels)
- Rembrandt regular pastel sticks: dark Prussian Blue, Cinnabar Green Medium, Cinnabar Green Light & a bright warm cream for highlights
- Set of soft Pastel Pencils (avoid Stabillo Carbothello Brand – These are too hard for the type of paper we are using.)
- Blending Stump.
- Strathmore Charcoal Pad “Assorted Tints”, #561-2., 12”x18” (from Plaza Art Supply, ONLY,)
WATERCOLORISTS ONLY
- Grumbacker Transparent Watercolor Set, 24 Pan set (in folding white plastic pallet) from Plaza Art, Towson, MD 410-823-6406 OR from Aarronbrothers, Timonium MD, 410-560-4965.
- If you Have tube paints, get the Alvin Heritage Pallet with 18 minimum color wells from Plaza Art. Non-Shiney mixing surface.
- Brushes-synthetic - Elongated, flat 1” wide x 1 1/4” tall, a #0 or #1 Script Brush & Loew Cornel brand Rounds #10, #6 & #2 with black handles with ½“ wide red stripe.
- Watercolor paper block, approx. 12”x16”. Choose brands either: Arches Cold Press (best!!), Canson or The Langdon (do not remove paper from block until finished and bone dry.)
- Incredible mask 3 piece kit with double-ended Incredible Nib. (Plaza Art Store or possibly others.)
- Drawing board with clips to hold your paper
- small spray bottle filled with water.
- Flat, small Sponge, Bounty paper towels (no other brand); Salt; Plastic 1 pint container (must fit your fist.)

- A few Pre-stretched Canvases in varied sizes, e.g., 8x10, 11x14, 12x16, 14x18, 16x20 or 18x24. (LANDSCAPE PAINTERS need a rougher weave canvas with a more textured surface- try: “Fredrix Creative Edge Medium Weave Cotton Duck” .)
- Additional paint tubes (See separate list if not getting the Utrecht kit above): Cadmium Lemon Yellow ( NOT the “hue”), Cadmium Orange, Cerulean Blue, Dioxazine Purple, Raw Sienna, Prussian Blue.
- Large 2 ¼ ” wide turpentine cup w/ pallet clip
- If not getting The Utrecht Oil Painting Kit (above); 1.) Weber Resin Gel medium; 2.) a trowel shaped pallet knife (long, with a blend in the blade; 3.) a 12x 16 palette (if wooden, sand smooth and coat with polyurethane.); 4.) a tote bag.
- MISCELLANEOUS; THREE ITEMS: 1.) Soft Rags; 2.) Bounty paper towel roll (a must); & 3.) smock or cover up (or wear old clothes)
