Since 1980, her work has been exhibited and collected nationally, including having been part of several juried museum shows. Her paintings have won many awards and have frequently been featured internationally, in books and magazines. She is a member of The Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painter’s Association and The Baltimore Watercolor Society. Since 1985, she has taught art for many art centers and colleges and currently is lead instructor and director of the Dodson School of Art, Sparks, Maryland, which Jill Dodson founded in 2002.

The artist is from Baltimore County, Maryland. Jill has been attached to this area’s beautiful, rolling countryside, since early childhood. In 1958, her parents, who were both graduates of the Maryland Institute College of Art, found a perfect spot for their dream house on a hilltop with picture widows facing sunsets and fascinating patterns of patchy fog in the lovely Belfast Valley. Growing up in this area of lush pastures and farmland, fox hunting country and steeplechase courses, Jill fell in love with the land as a young girl, and explored it intimately while hiking, biking and horseback riding. Her art is her way to pay tribute to all who have worked so hard to preserve it’s lovely rural beauty. In addition, the artist also paints during her travels to the Chesapeake Bay and other scenic locals.

Jill Dodson's artwork is represented by The Worthington Gallery of Art, Butler , Maryland.
