VACATIONERS PLEASE NOTE: Two absences per semester are automatically built into the total tuition for each course. Perfect attendance is by far not the norm. For those who must miss a class or classes, make- up classes, outside class material or homework may be provided to help who must be absent.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING IN OIL
This class is for students who at least have the ability to paint and draw still life. The Students will learn to compose and complete a landscape painting or paintings that attempt to have impact and mood. Students will work from references provided by the instructor or (with the instructor’s guidance and permission) from their own references. Topics may include attaining the illusion of distance, atmospheric lighting and color, effects of weather, time of day, season and direction of light.
Instructor: Jill Dodson, MFA, has studied landscape painting intensively with the Schuler School of Art, the Plein Air School of Art, Paris France and the Maryland Institute. She has taught and painted landscapes both from photos and in plein air professionally for many years. Jill participates regularly in Plein Air painting landscape completions and exhibits. She is also a member of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Assoc.

ONE-DAY COLOR WORKSHOP:
"Essential & Interesting Revelations"

There will be live demonstrations, hands-on exercises, informative and lively lecture and discussions and interesting visual aids (including original artwork). You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and get them answered by an expert.

Materials: Bring your favorite color medium which you are familiar with using, plenty of economical painting surfaces, a color wheel, scissors, glue stick, any item(s) with your favorite color combinations, materials for note taking, a bag lunch, and a beverage.

ONGOING CLASS FOR PAINTING & DRAWING (Choose Oils, Watercolors, Pastels, and/or Drawing Media.)
ENTER ANY TIME because this self-pacing course allows students to pick which medium they will work on for their own individual projects. Classes are small so that much individualized teaching and student self-expression is possible. Subjects may include landscapes, still life, animals, florals, figures &/or portraits. Improve your drawing skills learn color theory and basic painting techniques, such as how to suggest textures, use detail effectively, prevent and deal with mistakes. Enhance scenes by capturing mood and atmosphere, adding beautiful effects of light mixing color easily and creating fun design for eye-catching compositions. Achieve finesse of stroke and, if desired, loosen up and paint freer and more relaxed. Confidence- building, keeping a positive attitude, relaxation, play, risk taking and experimentation, all so necessary for success, is encouraged. Help and materials are available for matting and framing affordably.

DRAWING I
Build the foundations for all realistic and/or impressionistic painting. Learn new skills quickly through demonstrations detailed explanation and much individual instruction. Subjects may include still life, animals, figures, portraits and landscapes. The teacher uses ”artists’ secrets”, “tricks of the trade”, and artistic right- brain exercises. The instructor has devised unique methods and pulled from an enormous amount of resources and experience to teach the biomechanics of handling drawing materials in unique ways. Break bad habits or quickly develop new skills for future painting in a more confident, professional manner. This takes most artists years to develop and, often, many can never achieve it elsewhere Learn shading, proportion, perspective and suggesting texture and detail.

Digital Photography Program
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY &
PHOTOSHOP I
Learn the basics of digital photography and how it differs from film. Discover the advantages and disadvantages of SLR (Single Lens Reflex) digital cameras with interchangeable lenses vs. cameras with a non-interchangeable lens. Learn color correction, special effects and photo-editing to get the most out of your digital images using Photoshop and other software. Gain understanding of lighting to get great portrait and landscape photos. Learn digital reproduction of your own artwork, and/or the most cost-effective ways to get fabulous prints. So bring your camera and a willingness to have fun.

ADVANCED DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPY & PHOTOSHOP
If you have a basic knowledge of photography and basic computer skills, move from the basics to more advanced techniques. Get more proficient at photo editing to get the most out of your digital images using Photoshop and other software. Gain a better understanding of lighting and the different types of photographic lighting available. Discover how to get your color under control to get fabulous prints.
What to bring: Your camera and a willingness to experiment and have fun!
The Instructor, Jeffrey Wolk, is a freelance photographer who also works in the commercial printing industry. He received his first camera in 1970. Prior to digital photography, Jeffrey was using Photoshop and other digital imaging programs in the commercial printing environment. Currently, the advances in both digital photography and image manipulation software allow him to create unique artistic prints, commercial product shots and quality portraits. Some of his clients include National Geographic, Proctor and Gamble, Pumpernickel Press and BirthVerse. (See link to Photo program for photos and more info.)

Jewelry Making Program
BEADED JEWELRY MAKING
Match your outfits and create gorgeous, themed, sparkling beaded jewelry with great materials such as crystals and iridescent beads, charms, silver and netted beading. The first part of the semester you will make a set of earrings, a bracelet and necklace. Following that the students will choose his or her desired project(s) and receive more individualized instruction.
Instructor: Catherine Valle has been artistic since childhood. Her stunning work has won several awards and she has received college education in the fine arts. She is a professional jeweler, “fairy artist” and fiber artist. Her work has been shown in national festivals and commercial galleries. She travels to the largest national bead expo in America to collect the most unique and beautiful beads to bring you the best selection.
Materials Fee: First half of the semester: $80 payable to the instructor first class. Optional additional tool set, approx. $6 Second half of the semester: $80 - $100 depending on student’s choice of materials and projects. (Payable to the instructor at that time.)
